1. The historic St. Joseph's Cathedral, located within the Vasai Fort, has been awarded the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards 2025 for preserving its cultural heritage. The award recognizes the restoration of the ancient church's crumbling structure using meticulous skill and traditional techniques. The cathedral, located within the Vasai Fort in Maharashtra's Palghar district, is a masterpiece of Portuguese-era architecture. The award recognizes the efforts of private organizations or individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the preservation of historic buildings and structures. The Portuguese gained control of the region in 1534 by signing the Treaty of Vasai with Bahadur Shah.

2. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah attended the 87th Raising Day celebrations of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Guwahati, Assam on February 21, 2026 as the Chief Guest. This is the first time in its 86-year history that the CRPF's annual Raising Day parade has been held in Northeast India. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was originally formed on July 27, 1939, during British rule. The then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is considered the founding architect of the force's current form. It was established as the 'Crown Representative's Police'.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the final phases of the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train at a historic ceremony at the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat station in Meerut. With this, the entire 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor has been dedicated to the nation. This is the first initiative of its kind in India where the Namo Bharat (RRTS) and Meerut Metro will operate on the same infrastructure (tracks and stations). This will now allow the journey from Delhi to Meerut to take less than an hour (approximately 55-57 minutes).

4. The Gevra Coal Mine, located in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, is on track to become the world's largest coal mine by the next fiscal year (2026-27). Operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, the mine is currently India's largest opencast mine. SECL aims to produce 63 million tonnes (MT) of coal from the Gevra mine in the 2026-27 fiscal year. Upon achieving this target, it will become the world's number one coal mine, surpassing the Black Thunder mine in the United States (production of ~62 MT). Odisha is currently the leading state in India in terms of coal production. Chhattisgarh ranks second in terms of production. In contrast to production, Jharkhand ranks first in India in terms of reserves.

6. The Government of India has officially announced the change in the base year of the Merchandise Trade Index from 2012-13 to 2022-23. The index is prepared and published by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The new base year will better capture the growing influence of emerging sectors such as electronics and chemicals, providing more reliable data for policymakers and researchers. This revision is in line with the Ministry of Statistics (MoSPI)'s plan to update the base year of other economic indicators such as GDP, CPI, and IIP to 2022-23 or 2024.

7. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the nationwide "Vibrant Villages Programme-II" from Nathanpur village in Assam's Cachar district. The program's primary goal is to strengthen infrastructure (roads, electricity, water), education, and employment opportunities in border villages to stem migration. The central government has allocated a budget of ₹6,839 crore for this scheme, which will be implemented until the financial year 2028-29. These villages are not the country's "last" but "first" villages, and their residents serve as the "eyes and ears" for national security.

8. Pankaj Advani has won the inaugural Liber Win Champions Cup 2026 held in Bengaluru. Pankaj Advani defeated Kamal Chawla 6-3 in the final to lift the coveted trophy. The three-day invitational tournament was played at the Karnataka State Billiards Association (KSBA), Bengaluru. Pankaj Advani was also officially announced as the Indian brand ambassador of Liber Win at the conclusion of the tournament.
