SELECTION PROCESS:
Selection for engagement of apprentices would be based on the basis of
- Online Written Test
- Document Verification
- Test of Local Language
- Medical Examination
Online Written Test:
The structure of online written examination (MCQs type) would be as follows:

- All applicants who have paid the examination fee will receive intimation through BFSI SSC’s portal about the date and timing of the examination.
- All applicants will have to give the online examination on the given date and time using their own camera enabled desktop or laptop or tablet or smart phone.
- All applicants will have to display (for capturing image) the same ID Proof which they have uploaded on the apprenticeship portal.
- Except for PwBD candidates, no candidate will be allowed to have anyone else near him/her while giving online examination. The guidelines for the same shall be provided by the exam conducting agency.
- Candidates will be required to score a minimum percentage mark on aggregate as decided by the Bank (For SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates, 5% relaxation available thereon). There will be no minimum qualifying marks for individual subject.
- Candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit subject to reservation rules. In case more than one candidates score same marks (same marks at cut off point) the candidate with more age will be ranked higher in the merit list.
- Result of the candidates who have provisionally qualified for selection will be made available on the Bank’s website and also in BFSI SSC’s portal.
NOTE: Other detailed information regarding the examination will be given in the ‘Information Handout’, which will be made available for download to the eligible candidates along with the call letter for the test.
Document Verification:
(i) All the candidates applying for the apprenticeship with Punjab National Bank would be admitted to the written test provisionally on the basis of the information furnished by them in the online application. Their eligibility with respect to age / qualification / category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD), etc. will be determined only at the time of document verification after they qualify the written test.
(ii) Candidates will have to appear for the Document Verification at a centre (to be decided by the Bank) of the State/UT applied for, at his/her own expenses. The Bank will not reimburse or bear any travelling expenses that may be incurred by the candidate for attending the same.
(iii) The following documents in original and self-attested photocopies in support of the candidate’s eligibility and identity are to be invariably submitted at the time of joining/document verification/Language Test. Non submission of requisite documents by the candidate at the time of joining/document verification/language test will debar his/her candidature.
- Printout of the valid system generated printout of the online application/ registration/ enrolment form along with intimation letter/mail for Language Proficiency Test sent by the Bank.
- Proof of Date of Birth (DOB) (Birth Certificate issued by the Competent Municipal Authority or SSLC/ Std. X Certificate with DOB).
- Valid Photo Identify Proof (bearing exactly the same name as it appears on the call letter) such as PAN Card/ Passport/ Permanent Driving License/ Voter’s Card with photograph/ Bank Passbook with photograph/ Photo identity proof issued by a Gazetted Officer or People’s Representative on official letterhead / Identity Card issued by a recognised college or university/ Aadhaar/ E-Aadhaar card with a photograph.
- All Mark-sheets (semester or year wise) & certificates for Graduation or equivalent qualification etc.
- 10th standard or above mark sheet/certificate evidencing having studied the specified/opted local language (if applicable).
- Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format as stipulated by Government of India in the case of SC / ST / OBC / EWS category candidates (as enclosed in the Annexure).
- Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the Authorities as notified by the Government of India in the prescribed format in the case of EWS category candidates.
- Permanent Disability certificate in prescribed format issued by the District Medical Board in case of Persons with Benchmark Disability category. If the candidate has used the services of a Scribe at the time of online examination, then the duly filled in details of the scribe in the prescribed format.
- Persons eligible for age relaxation (Under Eligibility Criteria Section) must produce the Death certificate of husband/documents in support of Divorce or judicial separation and an affidavit/ declaration that they are not remarried.
- Any other relevant documents in support of eligibility.
Note:
- Candidates will not be allowed to join if he/ she fails to produce the relevant eligibility documents as mentioned above.
- Non-production of relevant eligibility documents at the time of joining/document verification shall make the candidate/s ineligible for further process.
- It will solely be the responsibility of the candidate to submit genuine and proper documents, any wrongful submission found after joining will also attract appropriate action as per applicable guidelines.
(iv) The Competent Authority for the issue of the certificate to SC / ST / OBC / EWS / PERSONS WITH BENCHMARK DISABILITIES is as under (as notified by GOI from time to time):
For Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes / Other Backward Classes:
(i) District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / Deputy Commissioner / Additional Deputy Commissioner / Deputy Collector / First Class Stipendiary Magistrate / City Magistrate / Sub-Divisional Magistrate (not below the rank of First Class Stipendiary Magistrate) / Taluk Magistrate / Executive Magistrate / Extra Assistant Commissioner (ii) Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate (iii) Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar (iv) Sub-divisional officer of the Area where the candidate and or his family normally resides.
For EWS Candidates: Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the Authorities as notified by the Government of India in the prescribed format.
For Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: Authorized certifying authority will be the Medical Board at the District level consisting of Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer in the District and an Orthopedics / Ophthalmic / ENT Surgeon or any person designated as certifying authority by appropriate government.
Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PWD categories have to submit certificates in support of it at the time of Language Test or as and when called by the Bank.
Test of local language:
(i) The candidates applying for training seats of a particular State, should be proficient (reading, writing, speaking and understanding) in any one of the specified local languages of that State.
(ii) Candidates who produce 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/ certificate evidencing having studied the specified opted local language will not be required to undergo the language test.
(iii) For other candidates, the test for knowledge of local language will be conducted as a part of selection process. It will be conducted when the candidate is called for document verification by the Bank. Candidates who fail to qualify this test will not be engaged as apprentice.

Medical Examination:
Engagement of candidates as apprentices shall be subject to their being declared medically fit, in accordance with the requirements of the Bank and/or as prescribed under the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 and subsequent amendments thereto. Each candidate shall be required to produce a medical fitness certificate, at his/her own expense, issued by a practicing registered general physician holding at least an MBBS qualification.
Final Selection will be subject to:
- Verification of eligibility for the post and information furnished in the online application
- Qualifying in written test, document verification and test of local language, where applicable, as detailed above.
- Being declared medically fit in accordance with the Bank’s requirements.
ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION:
Apprentices will need to go through final assessment test(s) at the end of their apprentice training. Subsequently, on the basis of marks scored by the apprentices, an Apprenticeship Certificate will be issued.
