IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026: Age Limit, Qualification, Nationality and Local Language

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has prescribed the IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 in the official CRP CSA-XVI notification. Candidates applying for Customer Service Associate vacancies must fulfil the required nationality, age, educational qualification, computer knowledge and local-language conditions.

Applicants must generally be 20 to 28 years old as of 1 August 2026 and possess a graduation degree on or before 21 August 2026. Candidates must also be proficient in the selected local language of the State or Union Territory for which they apply.

Meeting the eligibility criteria is compulsory. A candidate may be disqualified at any stage if their age, qualification, category, nationality or local-language claim is found to be incorrect.

To apply for IBPS Clerk 2026, a candidate must belong to one of the following nationality categories:

1. A citizen of India;
2. A subject of Nepal;
3. A subject of Bhutan;
4. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or
5. A person of Indian origin who migrated from one of the following countries with the intention of permanently settling in India:

   • United Republic of Tanzania
   • Zambia
   • Malawi
   • Zaire
   • Ethiopia
   • Vietnam

Candidates belonging to categories 2, 3, 4 and 5 must possess a valid Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India.

The age of candidates will be calculated as of 1 August 2026.

A candidate must have been born:

• Not earlier than 2 August 1998; and
• Not later than 1 August 2006.

Both dates are inclusive.

Date-of-Birth Eligibility

The minimum age of 20 years applies to every candidate. Age relaxation is provided only in the upper-age limit.

Candidates belonging to eligible reserved and special categories can claim upper-age relaxation.

*PwBD candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC or ST may receive cumulative relaxation according to the conditions prescribed in the notification.

Maximum Age for PwBD Candidates

SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates can combine their category-based relaxation with only one applicable special-category relaxation among:

• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities;
• Ex-Servicemen/Disabled Ex-Servicemen; or
• Widows, divorced and legally separated women who have not remarried.

Candidates must satisfy the eligibility conditions and submit valid documents for every relaxation claimed.

Candidates must possess a Degree in any discipline from:

• A university recognised by the Government of India; or
• An institution recognised by the Government of India; or
• An equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government.

The candidate must have completed graduation and possess proof of passing on or before 21 August 2026.

Important Graduation Requirements

• The final graduation result must be declared on or before 21 August 2026.
• Candidates must possess a valid mark sheet or degree certificate.
• The graduation completion date mentioned on the official mark sheet or provisional certificate will be considered.
• Candidates must enter their graduation percentage while completing the application.
• Degrees obtained from recognised institutions through regular, distance or other approved modes may be accepted.
• No specific graduation stream is required.
• No prior banking experience is necessary.

The IBPS Clerk notification does not prescribe any minimum graduation percentage.

Therefore, candidates with less than 50% or 60% marks can also apply, provided they:

• Have passed their graduation;
• Possess a recognised degree; and
• Have their final result declared by 21 August 2026.

Graduation marks may be used for verification, but the notification does not require candidates to secure a particular percentage.

Final-year students can apply only if their final result is declared on or before 21 August 2026.

A student whose examination is complete but whose result remains undeclared on the cut-off date will not satisfy the educational eligibility condition.

Candidates must calculate graduation percentage by considering marks obtained in all subjects across all semesters or years.

The prescribed method is:

The calculation must include:

• Honours subjects;
• Optional subjects;
• Additional optional subjects; and
• All semesters or academic years.

Treatment of Fractional Percentage

Fractional marks will not be rounded upward.

For example:

• 59.99% will be treated as less than 60%.
• 54.99% will be treated as less than 55%.

Although IBPS Clerk does not prescribe a minimum percentage, candidates must still enter their marks correctly.

Candidates whose university awards CGPA, OGPA or grades must convert them into a percentage using the conversion formula prescribed by their university or institution.

Such candidates should:

1. Convert their CGPA/OGPA into a percentage;
2. Enter the percentage up to two decimal places;
3. Obtain an official conversion certificate or document from the university; and
4. Produce the conversion proof during document verification or joining.

Candidates should not use an independently calculated formula if their university has prescribed an official conversion method.

Operating and working knowledge of computer systems is mandatory.

Candidates must satisfy at least one of the following conditions:

• Possess a certificate in computer operations or computer language;
• Possess a diploma in computer operations or computer language;
• Possess a degree involving computer studies;
• Have studied Computer Science, Computer Applications or Information Technology as a subject in high school, college or an institute.

Basic computer proficiency may include:

• Computer operations;
• Internet usage;
• Digital banking systems;
• Word processing;
• Spreadsheets;
• Email communication; and
• Data entry.

Candidates may be asked to produce educational records or certificates supporting their computer knowledge.

Recruitment for Customer Service Associate posts is conducted on a State/UT-wise basis. Candidates must be proficient in the specified or selected local language of the State or Union Territory for which they apply.

The required proficiency includes:

• Reading;
• Writing;
• Speaking; and
• Understanding.

Candidates must select one applicable local language in the online application form.

Local Language Test Exemption

Candidates may be exempted from the Local Language Proficiency Test if they produce a Class 10 or higher-level mark sheet or certificate showing that they studied the selected local language.

The LLPT is qualifying in nature. Candidates who fail the test will not be offered an appointment even if they have qualified in the Main Examination.

Candidates can apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory.

The selected State/UT determines:

• Vacancies against which the candidate will be considered;
• Local-language requirement;
• Category-wise vacancy availability;
• Preliminary and Main examination centre options; and
• Provisional allotment.

The State/UT option becomes final after submission and cannot ordinarily be changed. Candidates should check the vacancy position and local-language eligibility before selecting a State.

Ex-Servicemen who do not possess the standard graduation qualification may be eligible if they:

• Are matriculate Ex-Servicemen;
• Possess the Army Special Certificate of Education or a corresponding certificate from the Navy or Air Force;
• Have completed at least 15 years of service in the Armed Forces of the Union; and
• Possess the required certificate on or before 21 August 2026.

Eligibility remains subject to the complete Ex-Servicemen conditions stated in the official notification.

Serving Armed Forces candidates applying under the Ex-Servicemen category must complete their specified period of engagement on or before 20 August 2027, subject to IBPS rules.

Candidates claiming OBC reservation must belong to the Non-Creamy Layer.

Important conditions include:

• OBC creamy-layer candidates cannot claim OBC reservation.
• Creamy-layer candidates must apply under the General category.
• The certificate must contain the prescribed Non-Creamy Layer clause.
• It must be issued by a competent authority in the Government of India format.
• For provisionally allotted candidates, the certificate should be issued on or after 1 April 2026 and remain valid at document verification.

Merely belonging to an OBC community is insufficient if the candidate falls within the creamy layer.

EWS candidates must possess a valid Income and Asset Certificate issued by a competent authority.

For IBPS Clerk 2026:

• The EWS certificate should be valid for the year 2026-27.
• It should relate to the financial year 2025-26.
• EWS candidates do not receive separate age relaxation solely on the basis of EWS status.
• EWS eligibility remains subject to Government of India rules and verification.

Candidates claiming reservation under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category must possess the required degree of disability and a valid certificate under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The post has been identified as suitable for eligible candidates under categories including:

• Visual Impairment;
• Hearing Impairment;
• Locomotor Disability;
• Intellectual Disability;
• Specific Learning Disability;
• Mental Illness;
• Multiple Disabilities; and
• Other notified benchmark-disability categories.

Eligibility depends on the nature and extent of disability, functional requirements and the certification rules stated in the notification.

IBPS has not prescribed a fixed number of attempts for the Customer Service Associate examination.

Candidates may apply multiple times, provided they continue to fulfil:

• Age criteria;
• Educational qualification;
• Nationality requirements;
• Local-language conditions; and
• Other category-specific rules.

Therefore, the effective number of attempts depends mainly on the candidate’s age and applicable relaxation.

No previous work experience is required to apply for IBPS Clerk 2026.

Fresh graduates can apply if they satisfy the age, qualification, computer literacy and local-language criteria.

Candidates should keep the following documents ready:
