The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has prescribed detailed eligibility conditions for candidates applying for the IBPS PO/MT-XVI Recruitment 2026. Before submitting the online application form, candidates must ensure that they satisfy all the prescribed eligibility requirements regarding nationality, age limit, educational qualification, reservation, and other conditions.

Candidates should note that merely applying for the examination, qualifying the Preliminary or Main Examination, or even being provisionally allotted to a participating bank does not guarantee appointment. The final appointment is subject to verification of all eligibility conditions and documents by the allotted participating bank.

IBPS PO Nationality Criteria 2026

A candidate must fulfill one of the following nationality conditions to be eligible for IBPS PO Recruitment 2026:

  • Citizen of India; or
  • Subject of Nepal; or
  • Subject of Bhutan; or
  • Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or
  • A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from:
    • Pakistan
    • Myanmar (Burma)
    • Sri Lanka
    • Kenya
    • Uganda
    • United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar)
    • Zambia
    • Malawi
    • Zaire
    • Ethiopia
    • Vietnam

with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Important Note

Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India.

The age of the candidate will be calculated as on 1 July 2026.

IBPS PO Age Relaxation 2026

Upper age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per Government of India guidelines.

Important Points

  • Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (NCL) candidates can be combined only with one other eligible category wherever permitted under Government rules.
  • The upper age limit of 30 years applies to General and EWS candidates before any applicable relaxation.
  • Candidates claiming age relaxation must produce valid certificates during document verification and interview.

IBPS PO Educational Qualification 2026

Candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Government of India, or
  • Any equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.

The candidate must possess a valid mark sheet or degree certificate on the date of online registration and should correctly mention the percentage of marks obtained in graduation while filling out the application form.

Cut-off Date for Qualification

The final result of the qualifying degree must have been declared on or before 21 July 2026.

Important Instructions Regarding Educational Qualification

IBPS has specified several important conditions:

  • The qualification must be obtained from a recognized University/Institution/Board approved by the Government of India or the appropriate regulatory authority.
  • If the university awards CGPA/OGPA, candidates must convert it into percentage using the university's prescribed formula.
  • Documentary proof of the conversion formula must be produced during the interview if required.
  • The date appearing on the mark sheet or provisional certificate will be treated as the date of passing.
  • If results are published online, candidates must produce the appropriate certificate issued by the university indicating the date of passing.

Calculation of Percentage

IBPS has clearly explained how graduation percentage should be calculated.

The percentage should be calculated by:

(Total Marks Obtained ÷ Aggregate Maximum Marks) × 100

Important points:

  • Marks of all semesters/years will be considered.
  • Optional and honours subjects are also included wherever applicable.
  • Fractions are ignored.
    • 59.99% will be treated as less than 60%.
    • 54.99% will be treated as less than 55%.

Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

Reservation is available for eligible candidates under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The notification covers:

  • Visual Impairment (VI)
  • Hearing Impairment (HI)
  • Locomotor Disability (LD)
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Leprosy Cured
  • Dwarfism
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Acid Attack Victims
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Mental Illness
  • Multiple Disabilities

Only candidates with not less than 40% benchmark disability, certified by the competent authority, are eligible for reservation. PwBD candidates may also undergo verification of their disability certificates or UDID cards during the recruitment process.

Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Eligibility

Candidates applying under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category must satisfy the Government of India guidelines.

Income Criterion

The gross annual family income must be below ₹8 lakh.

Asset Criteria

A candidate will not be considered under EWS if the family owns any of the following assets:

  • Agricultural land of 5 acres or more
  • Residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. or more
  • Residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in notified municipalities
  • Residential plot of 200 sq. yards or more in non-notified municipalities

The EWS certificate should be valid for the year 2026–27 (Financial Year 2025–26).

Experience Requirement

IBPS does not prescribe any prior work experience for the post of Probationary Officer/Management Trainee.

Fresh graduates who satisfy all the prescribed eligibility conditions are eligible to apply.

Number of Attempts

The official notification does not specify any limit on the number of attempts.

Candidates can apply as many times as they wish, provided they continue to satisfy the prescribed age limit and other eligibility conditions.

Documents Required to Prove Eligibility

Candidates shortlisted for the Interview and Document Verification stage will be required to produce original documents supporting their eligibility, including:

  • Proof of Date of Birth
  • Graduation Mark Sheets/Degree Certificate
  • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL), if applicable
  • EWS Certificate, if applicable
  • PwBD Certificate, if applicable
  • Certificate of Eligibility (for eligible nationality categories)
  • No Objection Certificate (for candidates employed in Government/Public Sector organizations), where applicable
  • Experience Certificates, if applicable
  • Any other documents specified by IBPS or the participating bank.
