IBPS RRB Selection Process 2026

The IBPS RRB Selection Process 2026 varies depending on the post.

Office Assistant

Preliminary Examination → Main Examination → Provisional Allotment

Candidates first have to qualify for the Preliminary Examination. Shortlisted candidates appear for the Main Examination.

There is no interview for the Office Assistant post.

Final/provisional allotment is determined according to the applicable IBPS rules, Main Examination performance and vacancies reported by participating Regional Rural Banks.

Officer Scale-I

Preliminary Examination → Main Examination → Interview → Provisional Allotment

Candidates who qualify for the Preliminary Examination are shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Candidates shortlisted based on the Main Examination subsequently participate in the Common Interview.

Officer Scale-II & Scale-III

Single Online Examination → Interview → Provisional Allotment

There is no preliminary examination for Officer Scale-II and Scale-III.

Candidates appear for the Single Online Examination and qualifying candidates are shortlisted for the interview stage.

IBPS RRB Interview 2026

The interview stage is applicable to:

Officer Scale-I
Officer Scale-II
Officer Scale-III

It is not applicable to Office Assistant recruitment.

The interview carries 100 marks under the established RRB recruitment framework.

The minimum qualifying percentage is generally:

40% – General/EWS candidates
35% – SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates

For recruitment to the Officers cadre, the relative weightage of the Online Examination and Interview is:

Online Examination: 80%

Interview: 20%

Candidates therefore need to perform strongly in the written examination even after qualifying for the interview.

IBPS RRB Local Language Requirement 2026

Local-language proficiency is an important eligibility condition for candidates applying for Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale-I.

A candidate who has studied the relevant language of the state in Class VIII or at any level above Class VIII in a government-recognised board/school, or possesses the prescribed certificate, is considered proficient in that local language.

Candidates who do not satisfy the local-language requirement at the time of selection may be provided six months from the date of joining to acquire the required proficiency. The RRB Boards can provide an extension within the applicable rules, but it cannot go beyond the probation period.

Why is Local Language Important in IBPS RRB?

Regional Rural Banks operate extensively in rural and semi-urban areas. Employees, particularly Office Assistants and Officer Scale-I personnel, frequently interact directly with local customers.

Candidates should therefore check the prescribed local language of the state/UT for which they are applying.
