IBPS Clerk Age Limit 2026: Category-Wise Age Relaxation and Eligibility

The IBPS Clerk age limit 2026 has been specified in the official IBPS CRP CSA-XVI notification. Candidates applying for Customer Service Associate posts must be between 20 and 28 years of age as of 1 August 2026.

Applicants belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and certain other eligible categories can claim relaxation in the upper age limit according to government rules.

Both dates are inclusive. Therefore, a general or EWS candidate must have been born between 2 August 1998 and 1 August 2006 to satisfy the IBPS Clerk 2026 age criteria.

Candidates can understand the date-of-birth requirement from the following table:

Age relaxation applies only to the upper age limit. It does not reduce the minimum required age of 20 years.

IBPS provides upper-age relaxation to candidates belonging to eligible reserved and special categories.

*PwBD relaxation may be combined with SC, ST or OBC-NCL relaxation when permitted under the cumulative-relaxation rules.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities receive 10 years of upper-age relaxation. This relaxation can be combined with SC, ST or OBC-NCL relaxation, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification.

Candidates must hold a valid disability certificate issued by the competent authority under the applicable rules.

Age concession is available to:

• Widows;
• Divorced women; and
• Women legally separated from their husbands who have not remarried.

The candidate must produce valid documentary evidence supporting her marital status at the required stage of recruitment.

For Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen, the relaxation is calculated using the candidate’s actual period of service in the defence forces.

General Calculation

Permissible age = Basic maximum age + actual defence service + 3 years

For Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC or ST:

Permissible age = Basic maximum age + actual defence service + 8 years

The final age cannot exceed 50 years.

Candidates still serving in the Armed Forces may apply under the Ex-Servicemen category if they complete their specified period of engagement on or before 20 August 2027, subject to the conditions prescribed by IBPS.

SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates may claim cumulative age relaxation with only one of the eligible special categories covered under the following groups:

• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities;
• Ex-Servicemen/Disabled Ex-Servicemen; or
• Widows, divorced women and legally separated women who have not remarried.

For example:

• An OBC-NCL candidate with a benchmark disability may receive 3 years of OBC relaxation plus 10 years of PwBD relaxation.
• An SC/ST candidate with a benchmark disability may receive 5 years of SC/ST relaxation plus 10 years of PwBD relaxation.

Candidates cannot combine relaxations without satisfying the eligibility and documentary requirements for both categories.

Only candidates belonging to the OBC Non-Creamy Layer category can claim the three-year age relaxation.

Important instructions include:

• OBC creamy-layer candidates are not eligible for OBC reservation or age relaxation.
• Creamy-layer candidates must apply under the General category.
• The OBC certificate must include the prescribed Non-Creamy Layer clause.
• The certificate should be issued in the Government of India’s prescribed format.
• For provisionally allotted candidates, the OBC-NCL certificate should have been issued on or after 1 April 2026 and remain valid at the time of document verification.

EWS candidates receive the same basic age limit as General candidates:

• Minimum age: 20 years
• Maximum age: 28 years
• No separate upper-age relaxation based only on EWS status

The EWS certificate should be valid for 2026-27 and relate to the financial year 2025-26, as prescribed in the notification.

Candidates seeking age relaxation must produce original certificates and photocopies during document verification, joining or any other stage specified by IBPS or the participating bank.

Depending on the category, candidates may need:

• Date-of-birth proof;
• Class 10 certificate or mark sheet;
• SC/ST caste certificate;
• OBC-NCL certificate with Non-Creamy Layer clause;
• PwBD certificate;
• Ex-Servicemen discharge or service certificate;
• Certificate for serving Armed Forces personnel;
• Death certificate, divorce decree or legal-separation documents, where applicable; and
• Any other certificate prescribed in the official notification.

Failure to produce valid documents can result in cancellation of candidature, even if the candidate has qualified in the examinations.

The candidate’s age will be calculated as of 1 August 2026.

For example:

• A candidate born on 2 August 1998 is eligible under the basic age limit.
• A candidate born on 1 August 2006 is also eligible.
• A General candidate born on 1 August 1998 exceeds the basic maximum age and is not eligible.
• A candidate born on 2 August 2006 has not attained the minimum age and is not eligible.

Candidates should enter the same date of birth that appears on their Class 10 certificate or other officially accepted record.
